Description

Imec is an independent research institute founded by the Flemish government to stimulate ICT innovation.

The Imec  team offers companies and organizations active support in research and development. It brings together companies, authorities, and non-profit organizations to join forces on research projects. Both technical and non-technical issues are addressed within each of these projects.

The mission of Imec is the creation of highly competent human capital in different aspects of ICT through multi-disciplinary demand-driven research.

Imec aims to add economic and social value through excellent research and the creation of human capital in the domain of ICT.

Imec carries out this multi-disciplinary research for the Flemish business community and the Flemish government. This includes all technological, legal and social dimensions of the development and exploitation of broadband services.

Products & Services

Imec supports interdisciplinary demand-driven research for innovative ICT services and applications within six vertical market segments: Media, Energy, Health, ICT, Manufacturing and Smart Cities. In recent years, Imec has been involved in projects concerning online home care, mobile television, wireless support systems for emergency services, among others.

ICT research is unthinkable without elaborate testing. iLab.o helps to set up a large-scale trial outside the lab environment. Representative users get the chance to test ICT innovations over a longer period of time in their daily environment. iLab.t provides lab infrastructure to evaluate technical feasibility, performance, and service quality of ICT innovations at the earliest possible stage.

In addition to its research activities iMinds offers programs to inspire, train and coach the next generation of ICT entrepreneurs in Flanders.

  • Workshops and boot camp.
  • Incubation: iStart focuses specifically on the further development and commercialization of new technology that is developed by the Imec research ecosystem.
  • Acceleration: Throughout the Flemish Gazelle program, Imec support high-growth companies and create opportunities where knowledge and experience can be shared; Imec offers access to the Gazelle growth opportunity assessment and tailored coaching program by consultants.
  • Go Global: Imec wants to encourage Flemish ICT start-ups to conquer the US and Asian market. In order to give you a boost, we facilitate introductions and offer coaching into significant US hot spots or booming Asian markets.
