For Benoît Mortier, founder of FusionDirectory, it is the relationships and meaning he finds in his work that count. Throughout the company’s evolution, FusionDirectory will offer its customers a single, scalable software solution to meet their needs. We spoke with Benoît, a passionate avant-gardist, and are sharing this inspiring conversation with you.
Benoît Mortier set up his company 23 years ago with the simple but original idea of offering an identity and access management solution for the public sector. What sets FusionDirectory apart from other tech companies is its decision to specialise on two levels: content (IAM) and target (the government sector). This focus has enabled the company to offer its customers tailor-made solutions. “We have succeeded in modernising identity management for prestigious customers, which has enhanced our reputation and opened up new opportunities,” explains Benoît.
The company’s success is reflected in the quality and duration of its collaborations with major customers. In Belgium, for example, the Green Party has been a loyal customer for almost 15 years, while in France, institutions such as the Gendarmerie, the Sorbonne and several universities have used their services.
What also sets FusionDirectory apart, and has enabled it to get this far, is the talent it recruits and works with. Indeed, for Benoît, the most important thing is to work with independent people, wherever they may be in the world. Because at FusionDirectory, employees work wherever they want, as long as their objectives are met.
After several years building up this successful business, Benoît is now concentrating on passing on his company and hopes to find the right fit with his team. “I’m preparing to hand over the company to my employees because I believe in their ability to continue our mission and uphold our core values,” he says. Benoît’s values are above all those of generosity to his customers and partners, but also, and always, the specialisation that makes a difference.
To conclude this interview, Benoît gives us two key tips for success in this sector. First, as mentioned above, it’s crucial to specialise as much as possible in a specific subject. As Benoît says, “You have to be the best. It has to be simple for the customer.” This hyperspecialisation allows you to develop your business over the long term and avoid getting lost trying to do everything. The second piece of advice Benoît shares with us is to build a solid network and maintain transparent communication with your customers and partners. It is all part of creating an environment of trust.
